One of Zimbabwe’s most decorated comic book artists, Bill Masuku has made an intriguing announcement on LinkedIn. In the post Bill Masuku announces KinderGuardians, the creation of a pre-K series. You have to appreciate how this came together with a dazzling graphic, and by the looks of it, this new project is one aimed at a young audience.
Bill Masuku himself is not a stranger to content made for young audiences, despite being especially know for his works that appeal more to teens and older. in his words, the KinderGuardians project is part of a long term goal to contribute to Africa generating it’s own intellectual property, especially in the children’s space. I personally love the name and the characters that we’ve seen so far from the graphic that Bill released.
Who Are the KinderGuardians?
The heroes themselves look like young children, something that will obviously make it easier for the young ones to associate. The character design itself has also gone beyond the standard 4 of 5 hero team. Bill Masuku has treated us to 8 little heroes; classic speedster that looks combined with flame, lighting, psychic, and intelligence. In classic Bill Masuku uniqueness we have a few heroes designs that we’ve never come across. The Kid Pangolin and chongororo (millipede) characters are uniquely African to me which stamps character origin. The Torrent character acknowledges how we now live in an age of internet, and Domboshower must be something I wouldn’t want to be caught in. Bill has used a great play on words for not just the name of the collective but also their individual names and character designs.

To quote, Bill Masuku’s LinkedIn post:
As Africa’s animation and entertainment industries continue to grow, ownership of original intellectual property and a strong understanding of licensing will become just as important as artistic talent. If we want to build a sustainable creative industry, we need to create worlds of our own, not just celebrate those from elsewhere. With that in mind, I’ve been quietly developing a new pre-K series called KINDER GUARDIANS.
With my experience making superheroes (RAZOR-MAN & CAPTAIN SOUTH AFRICA) and an ever-growing need for African-centered children’s content, this was a through ball for the Dubbing Lab.
We’re welcoming aspiring voice talents of all ages to take part, as we give life to Heat Streak, Ms. Mheni, The Torrent, Dombo Shower, Psykid, Kid Pangolin, Chongororo, and The Intelli-Gent!
While he hasn’t explicitly announced that this project is solely an animation one, it is exciting to see what is to come. The KinderGuardians announcement has come attached to a Dubbing Lab program at Otakukon Anime Festival (OKAF) 2026. This comes together with a call for aspiring voice actors who would like to bring the Kinder Guardians to life.
We hope to see you at Otakukon, which will be held on the 23rd of August 2026. The pop culture festival will be at at Moto Republik Hub in Harare. ARM Comics will be there showcasing the first comics from our roster and engaging artists for distribution.
